Forest Weeks

During the first two weeks in August we spent a lot of time in the woods. The forest is a great place with all kinds of possibilities for exploration and creative play.

First, we marched to a forest hut near Binz which could give us shelter in case it started to rain. We found some sticks, acorns and stones on the way. After the walk we were really exhausted! Lucky, we took our inflated sofas with us. It was lovely to rest on one of the sofas.

And then we were hungry! So, Sylvia and I cooked some sausages on the campfire and we had cut vegetables and bread with that. Some of the kids washed up the dishes afterwards. The slack lines were very difficult to walk on, but we love challenges. Balancing, walking and holding on at the same time is not easy you know!!

We collected some snails, worms and bugs and placed them very carefully in a transparent cup so we could have a closer look at them. Once we saw enough, we made sure we put the insects back into nature, also very carefully of course. Sylvia built a little insect house with us. Unfortunately we couldn’t leave the insect house in the woods. So we took it back with us and we will hang right outside the Afterschool Club.

On one of our exploring excursions we found this Tipi! Everybody was very excited to enter the tipi and to hang around for a little play. Next time we will try to build our own tipi.

As a little keepsake we made some clay snails. It took a few days for them to dry properly. As clay is a natural material we thought it would be a great sensory activity. Overall, we had a great time in the forest. The kids spent most of the day outside. They were able to use their imagination, to be creative and to discover the forest in it’s purest form.
